Put a Magic Attractor Rock in Your Pocket

I am often asked “Is there one simple thing I can do to attract more positive things into my life?” That is an easy answer; create a continual attitude of gratitude and appreciation. The next question is almost always, “How do I do that?”

Before I answer how to do it I should tell you why an attitude of gratitude and appreciation is the most powerful attractor for positive experiences in life. Most of us have recently celebrated the holiday of Thanksgiving. It is a time when we are to be grateful for all the blessings that flow in our life. I believe that most of us gave at least some thought to what we are grateful for but there also those who look at their present circumstances and for whatever reason do not find a lot to be thankful for.

We must realize that our thoughts, feelings, actions and conversations all create an energy or vibration that attracts more of whatever we are thinking about or feeling into our lives. If our thoughts and feelings are positive we attract positive things, people and events. If our thoughts and feelings are negative then we attract negative things, people and events.

The question becomes “How do we stay positive in our attitude even when we are experiencing negative situations?”

One of the best answers I know of is gratitude and appreciation. It is almost impossible to stay negative when we are expressing our gratitude and appreciation for what we do have. But gratitude and appreciation is even more important than that. Without being grateful and appreciating what we have in our present circumstances it is almost impossible to create the circumstances we desire in our lives. Gratitude and appreciation are the two of the strongest positive attracting emotions there are.

When we are not focused on gratitude and appreciation then we are usually focused on criticizing, condemning and complaining about our present situation. The 3 C Syndrome (criticizing, condemning and complaining) will definitely keep us from attracting what we really want into our lives. The 3 C’s set up a negative vibration that begins to affect our lives almost immediately and will continue to have a negative impact until we change the vibration.

Try this right now. Write down ten things that you are grateful for right now. Did you do it? If you did chances are your list will be dominated by one of two different types of things. One is what I call BSO’s or Bright Shiny Objects. This could be cars, jewelry, money, and material things. The other types of things that end up on the list will be what I call the “Gifts”. "Gifts" are the true blessings we have in our life. It tends to be people like spouses, children, friends, associates, our health and mental and spiritual well being. What does your list consist of? Mine used to contain mostly BSO’s until I realized that none of the possessions I have really define what’s important to me in my life. I began to change my list to one that reflects those “Gifts” in my life that I could not replace with money.

One of the greatest Gifts I have that can never be replaced or recovered is time. For example: This moment right now can never be recovered. Whatever you choose to do, think or feel in this moment right now can not be recovered. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. I am so grateful for another minute, another hour, another day. Just waking up in the morning is a Gift to me. Every moment of every day I get to decide or choose how I want to be and how I want to affect the people around me. I choose to be happy and I choose to have a positive impact on everyone I come in contact with. I decide that every morning when I awake. First thing in the morning is a good time of day to begin to express gratitude and appreciation.

Don't misunderstand me. It is not wrong to be grateful for the Bright Shiny Objects in our life but if your list is full of them and not the true Gifts that already exist in your life, then you may wish to rethink what is truly valuable and irreplaceable in your life that you would want to take the time to express your gratitude and appreciation for. When we do the adjustment from BSO's to the Gifts we don't lose out on the BSO's but actually get more of them as a result of our gratitude and appreciation of the Gifts. If you are in doubt then be grateful and appreciative of all of them, BSO's and Gifts. I have found that it is the Gifts that really make my life valuable and special and the BSO's just add to the fun and enjoyment of the Gifts.

That was a paradigm shift for me because I grew up being taught that it is what you have and what you do and what others think of you that determines who you are. It’s the car you drive, the house you live in, the amount of money you make, the social status you have, the job you have that determines your self worth or value. When I discovered that none of those things are who I am, that it is all just stuff , I began to break out of the 3 C mode and began to become grateful for what I really did have that was truly important.

So, how do we maintain a focus on what we are truly grateful for? There are a couple of methods I use that really have helped change my vibration and therefore changed my results.

The Gratitude Rock

This technique is one I picked up from “The Secret” DVD. The basic concept is this: You carry a rock in your pocket or purse and every time you reach into your pocket or purse and touch the rock you express your gratitude for what you have in your life. It might be a major item like family or friends or something seemingly small and insignificant like a good parking spot at the mall.

When I first heard this idea it grabbed me right away. I paused the DVD, ran out into the yard and dug under some snow to grab a landscaping rock to put into my pocket and began reaching for it throughout the following days. Things started happening almost right away. I noticed that I had a better overall attitude and my expectations were much more positive as well as my own self talk. After a while I found a rock I had brought back from Alaska with me and retired the landscaping rock for the smooth, unique rock from Alaska. The point is this. If we can find a trigger that will focus us on what is going right and what we are truly blessed with, it will have a positive impact on the next moment, and the next moment and the next moment and so on. If you create an avalanche of gratitude and appreciation you will receive an avalanche of good things happening.

Other Gratitude Triggers

The Stoplight Trigger: Another way to trigger an avalanche of gratitude and appreciation is to use the same concept of the gratitude rock at a stop light. Rather than complaining, condemning and criticizing the fact that you got stopped at the light, why not be grateful for the small piece of time you are given to express your gratitude and appreciation for the good things or gifts in your life. Or you can use the time to attract a good parking spot for wherever you are headed.

The Checkout Line Trigger: This may be one of the most helpful at this time of heavy shopping and long lines. It is also another place where we can tend to begin using the 3 C’s to create a negative vibration. Instead, use the time in the line to notice things you are grateful for and appreciate and express that appreciation and gratitude. It will make a huge difference in your life and all the people around you will wonder what you are so happy about.

The last point is to tell you how to express your gratitude and appreciation. It is a very simple use of two words … Thank You!

You may be asking, “Who or what do I thank?” We all have to answer that question for ourselves but as for me, I thank God. I know that He is the creator and source of everything that is good and worthwhile and that He is my supply. The Bible even tells us what to be thinking about in Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” AMP

Those are things that are truly worth thinking about.
